Dear Toronto Catholic Community,

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Brendan Browne has agreed to a five-year renewal contract as Director of Education, following negotiations directed by our Board of Trustees. This agreement, effective from September 1, 2025, ensures continuity in our system and builds on the remarkable progress we have made under his leadership.

Dr. Browne has assembled an outstanding and diverse senior team. His compassion and dedication to the Toronto Catholic community shine through his engagements with students and staff in schools, and his heartfelt presence in times of loss or crisis. He has adeptly guided us through challenging annual budget approvals and has strengthened our Board’s relationship with the Ministry of Education. His focus on policy work and his efforts to elevate public confidence underscore the positive impacts and good news from our schools.

Dr. Browne's leadership was instrumental in developing our Multi-Year Strategic Plan (MYSP), which supports the Equity Action Plan (EAP) and the Mental Health Action Plan. He also championed two Pastoral Plans, enhancing Toronto Catholic's standing as a leader in publicly funded education both provincially and internationally.

A respected educational leader, teacher, author, son, husband, and father, Dr. Browne continues to demonstrate his dedication to student achievement, equity, mental health and well-being, deeply rooted in our Catholic faith.

As a graduate of our Catholic school system, Dr. Browne embodies the essence of our teachings and values. His vision for the TCDSB is enriched by his lifelong commitment to faith, family and Church, inspiring our entire community. His unwavering commitment to a faith-based educational environment has profoundly strengthened our mission to nurture students in a Christ-centred learning.

The Board of Trustees is grateful that Dr. Browne has accepted this renewal, eager to continue his journey with Toronto Catholic. We greatly value his Christian leadership, dedication, and exceptional talent.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Brendan Browne on his extended tenure and in supporting his ongoing efforts to enhance the educational experience for all within the Toronto Catholic community.

Sincerely,

Nancy Crawford
