A big congratulations to Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) alum Malik Metivier for placing second in the 400-metre hurdles event at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships!
In addition to this big accomplishment, Malik, 23 years of age, also ran a personal best time and qualified to represent Canada in the 400-metre hurdles event at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in England, and the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Open Championships 2022 in The Bahamas.
Malik is a proud TCDSB graduate from Etobicoke’s Our Lady of Peace Elementary School and Father John Redmond High School and ran for both his high school’s track and field team and the Etobicoke Track and Field Club. In August of 2021, Malik was presented with the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame Athlete of the Month award.
Malik’s parents, Patricia and Andre Metivier are not only accomplished and decorated runners in their own rights but also work within the TCDSB. Patricia was an Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) medalist while attending Michael Power/St. Joseph High School and has recently retired from her alma mater. Patricia was also awarded the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame Athlete of the Month in 2014. Andre has also been involved in the sport of track and field since high school, attending post-secondary in the United States on a scholarship and has also recently retired from Chaminade College School, where he was a teacher and head coach of the track and field and cross-country running teams.
Malik has two sisters who are TCDSB graduates from our Lady of Peace Elementary School and Father John Redmond High School. His sister Zahra is currently working towards her Bachelor of Education at Bishop’s University and plays for the soccer team, and his other sister Maya will study Business at the University of Windsor this upcoming fall while competing for their track and field team.
Just last year, Malik Metivier graduated Magna Cum Laude from Auburn University with a degree from the College of Liberal Arts (Communications). Currently enrolled at Texas Tech University, Malik continues to prepare for his summer track and field schedule and is working to complete his Master’s degree in Sports Administration.
On behalf of the TCDSB community, congratulations and best of luck to you, Malik. Your perseverance, commitment and determination to sport and academics are truly remarkable and commendable. We look forward to watching you reach for the gold!
