Carter Creates

Carter Creates is a multi-disciplinary arts festival. It’s an opportunity for students and teachers to try new ideas, to explore connections and to stretch creativity to its limits.

This year, we've decided to go online for Carter Creates, our multi-disciplinary arts festival, both to showcase our students and to make their work accessible to a wider audience.  

One of our key revisioning goals was to be leaders in Arts Education for the 21st Century. 

We believe that the integrative attitudes and skills flowing from a creative, collaborative venture like the Carter Creates Festival, will uniquely position Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts to be in line with all the other Arts leaders across Canada who are also creating virtual performances while maintaining our commitment and focus on academic and artistic excellence.

History

Since its inception in 2018, Carter Creates has been a week long festival of various organized activities that help to foster innovation and collaboration. The planning of this festival coincided with our school revisioning and in particular with the theme of “Community First.”  

Collaborations in the last few years have been fostered within departments and between dissimilar departments, creating a beautiful collision of ideas.  

The week long festival included fun workshops, special guest speakers (very often accomplished alumni), guest workshops, and evening presentations/performances featuring student works in a variety of locations within the CEC and at Cardinal Carter. ​

It was encouraged that these presentations, installations, videos or performances integrate 2 or more subjects or courses.

In the past, these were some of the collaborations between departments:

  • Physics & Dance & Music (on movement and motion)

  • Physics & Art (on the translation of proteins)

  • Art & Strings (using hand gestures in famous works of art to write musical notations)

  • Geography and Art (moving tectonic plates)
