The Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts (CCAA) Music Department includes over 330 students in its three distinct areas of Strings, Vocal and Band. We are proud of our 30 year history of educating students to achieve extraordinary musical skills within a welcoming and caring environment.

We have 5 rehearsal classrooms, 3 practice studios and perform in our state of the art, professional theater, but you’ll find Carter music students practicing their music all over the school, wherever there’s a little space!                                                                   

With so many successful alumni all over the World, we proudly carry our reputation of being fun-loving and dedicated to music and each other. 

​Teachers, along with Guest Artists engage students in a variety of small and large ensembles which are level appropriate to students’ musical skills. We have always been committed to enrolling our students in performance activities, Music Festivals and Competitions where we consistently achieve outstanding results. We promote leadership within the student body through activities like our peer mentoring, student-led sectionals, and student-led small ensembles. This leadership extends to the entire Music Department with its active Music Student Council who organizes various fun events, Music Banquets and fundraising activities to allow our music students to connect and build friendships. Our biannual Music Trips to Canadian and International destinations have always been the highlight of the Music Department. ​

We are always excited to be able to collaborate with other Art departments in events such as the school musical and collaborative school performances. Our Grade 11 students plan and mount an integrated show or a musical in their second semester course, which is one of their culminating activities in the following school year. 

We are truly proud of our small and large ensembles who enter the Kiwanis and OBA/OSA/OVA Music Festivals bi-annually. Both of our Vocal groups, Concert Bands, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, String Orchestra and instrumental-small ensembles consistently achieve a Platinum standing at the Kiwanis Festivals. Our Jazz Band and Jazz Combo finished as Provincial Finalist winners for the past many years. 

Our students are busy mentoring, coaching, conducting, arranging, composing and performing throughout their years at Carter. They develop their musical skills and become confident performers within a short period of time. They have a 100% acceptance rate and are offered scholarships at top Universities around the world.
