At the end of April, students from our Music and Dance departments embarked on an unforgettable journey to Whistler and Vancouver. From performing in our respective art areas to exploring the natural wonders of the beautiful West Coast, every moment was filled with excitement and inspiration.
One of the highlights of our trip was showcasing our talents in the vibrant atmosphere of the Cantando Festival. From the outstanding 'Gold Award' performances of our Festival Winds, Jazz Band, Festival Choir, and String Ensemble to the graceful movements of our Dance groups; each performance was a testament to our dedication and passion for the arts. Being adjudicated by some of the finest master adjudicators, and participating in workshops, not only allowed us to showcase our skills but also provided invaluable feedback that will help us grow as artists. Outside of our performances, we took the time to immerse ourselves in the beauty of Whistler. Strolling through Whistler Village, we were captivated by its lively atmosphere and picturesque surroundings. The village was filled with over 3000 students of our age who took part in this Festival, and their excitement was felt and seen everywhere. Venturing further, we visited Grouse Mountain and Shannon Falls, reminding us of the inspiring power and beauty of nature. A particularly enriching experience was learning about the Squamish culture, deepening our understanding of the heritage and culture of the region.
During our time in Vancouver, we attended the opening night performance of Carmen. The powerful melodies of Bizet's work along with the intricate choreography created an unforgettable experience that left us in awe. It was a perfect complement to our own artistic endeavors and added another layer of inspiration to our adventures.
As we reflect on our time in Whistler, we are filled with gratitude for the unforgettable experiences and the bonds that were created and strengthened with our peers along the way. This trip was not just about performances and sightseeing; it was also about coming together as an artistic family through our collaborative performances, embracing new experiences, and creating lasting memories that will continue to inspire us for the rest of our lives.
