October is International Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Awareness Month. It has been celebrated around the world for over 15 years. AAC refers to all the ways in which we communicate with one another using gestures, body language, communication materials, tools, and even electronic systems.

There are a growing number of students in our board whose primary mode of communication is through an AAC communication system. As part of the TCDSB’s effort to embrace diversity, access, and equity, please join the Speech and Language Pathologists (SLP) department this October in celebrating AAC and all of its users. Learn more about AAC and its users by following our SLP Department account on X (@TCDSBSpeechLang) or on Instagram (@slptcdsb).
