Intensive Support Program

The Speech and Language Department staff provide a range of education, consultation and support services and programs to students with communication and literacy needs, as well as to their teachers, families and/or caregivers. 

One of the services offered is the Intensive Support Program for Students with Language Impairment (LI ISP), a two-year placement for students with moderate to severe delays in oral and written language skills and at least average non-verbal cognitive reasoning.

  • Classes are located in selected elementary schools across the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB).

  • Typically, ten students in the primary and junior/intermediate grades attend the class for at least fifty percent of the school day and are integrated throughout the day.

  • Classroom staff include an LI teacher, and may also include an Educational Assistant (EA).

  • The school speech-language pathologist collaborates with the LI teacher and provides programming, consultation and resources.
