Lunar New Year 2024
On February 10, 2024, the Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Tibetan, Malaysian, Vietnamese, Singaporean and other communities in Canada and around the world will celebrate the Lunar New Year, also known as Spring Festival (Chinese), or Seollal (Korean), or Tết (Vietnamese). This holiday is celebrated by over two billion people worldwide. Families and loved ones will come together to give thanks, exchange gifts, and welcome the arrival of the Year of the Dragon, a symbol of power, courage, tenacity, and success.
The following workshops are offered to Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) students to commemorate the Lunar New Year.
Lunar New Year Music Workshop
The TCDSB, in collaboration with The Canadian Foundation for Asian Culture, presented a Lunar New Year Music Workshop on February 8, 2024. Elementary students were taken on a journey to learn the origins of the Lunar New Year and explore the ways music is created to symbolize the Year of the Dragon. Chinese Calligraphy and Brush Painting Workshop
TCDSB students celebrated the Lunar New Year of the Dragon by attending a Chinese Calligraphy & Brush Painting workshop on February 8, 2024 with artists Lien Chao and Irene Hung. A recording of the workshop can be seen below:
