The Graduation Coaches for Black Students program provides an affinity space for Black students to feel safe, supported and acknowledged in their school community.
A Graduation Coach will support students by:
Collaborating with administrators, guidance counsellors, teachers, support services personnel, and caregivers to support the success of Black students, and address any barriers to learning, wellbeing, and overall student success.
Providing one-to-one advising, mentorship, and advocacy supports to Black students and families.
Coordinating culturally responsive referrals and access to community support programs.
Facilitating learning opportunities for students to aid in dismantling anti-Black racism.
Organizing events for Black students and families to foster motivation, empowerment, and inspire the pursuit of success.
In adherence with the Equity Action Plan of the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), the Graduation Coaches provide student workshops as well as staff professional learning on topics related to Implicit Bias, Anti-Black racism, and microaggressions, in commitment to dismantle anti-Black racism.
