Neil McNeil High School hosted our second annual Black History Month Expo. Students had the opportunity to participate in workshops facilitated by:
Unity (exercise bootcamp led by personal fitness trainers who are alumnus of Neil McNeil)
Gilbert Enenajor (discussion on post-secondary pathways)
Alpha Rhythm Roots (rhythms and music of mandingue musical instruments)
Local 27 - Rokhaya Gueye Community Partnership Coordinator at the Carpenters Regional Council
Blessinglicious (Nigerian food tasting)
Constable Curtis Celestine - Black Liaison Officer from the Toronto Police Community Partnership and Engagement Unit
Toronto Fire Services
In the afternoon, students participated in assemblies led by P.E.A.C.E (People Everywhere Actually Co-Existing Equally) facilitated by Matthew "Testament" Jones, who was recently named Ontario's newest Poet Laureate. The presentation included music, dance, and poetry - all focused on Black Canadian History, as well as empathy, accountability, and an element of Christian faith.
