The Senator O'Connor College School family celebrated Black History Month for the entire duration of the month of February. We had a multitude of events, ranging from morning music featuring various Black artists and musicians, to having prominent Black Canadians on the school TVs & throughout school Instagram accounts. We also had two cultural lunches exploring the flavours of various Afro-Caribbean dishes. It was a full month of festivities!
We finished off the month by hosting 4 grade level Black History Month Assemblies which featured spoken word, a cultural fashion show, beautiful messages of Black excellence, power, and resilience, finished by songs from both the choir and band. Even though, in Canada, the month of February is set aside to celebrate the achievements and excellence of Canadians of African descent both past, present, and future, this celebration is a daily endeavor.
It was a wonderful month of programming - and the entire O'Connor community (including staff, student, Special Education students and admin) were all very involved in this wonderful initiative!
