The rich spirit of Tamil Canadian heritage came alive at Senator O’Connor College School on Saturday, February 1st, during a vibrant event hosted by the International Languages (IL) program.
Home to three Tamil language classes, this year’s festivities centered on Thai Pongal, the traditional Tamil harvest festival. Celebrated by Tamil communities worldwide, Thai Pongal marks the season’s rice harvest, with families preparing and sharing customary dishes to honor the occasion.
The event was organized by Principal Navaratnasingham, who leads the IL Program at Senator O’Connor, featured captivating performances by students, showcasing their cultural pride. Attendees also had the opportunity to savor authentic Tamil Canadian cuisine, adding a flavourful touch to the celebration.
Distinguished guests from the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), including Superintendent Bria, Principal Kim, and Vice-Principal Di Milo, participated in the event, joining students and staff in embracing the vibrant traditions of Tamil Canadian culture.
