Monsignor Percy Johnson Catholic Secondary School proudly congratulates four of our grade 11 students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, earning them a spot in the 2024 Summer Mentorship Program (SMP) at the University of Toronto Temerty Faculty of Medicine. These students are enrolled in the Health and Wellness Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) pathway at MPJ, have career aspirations in health science, and have maintained an A. Through cooperative education, they had opportunities to test-drive careers in diverse healthcare settings. These experiences motivated them to apply for U of T's Summer Mentorship Program.
The SMP program aims to engage Black students - historically underrepresented in the faculty of medicine at U of T- in an innovative and culturally responsive curriculum that will prepare them for a range of health science careers and mentorship. Students learn at the St. George Campus and the University Health Network. Upon successful completion, they will receive a bursary and a University/College Science credit.
