The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB)'s Secondary Guidance, in partnership with Humber College (Barrett Centre for Technology and Innovation), offered female Grade 10 Career Studies students from Monsignor Percy Johnson Catholic Secondary School the opportunity to attend the Champion Women in STEM Event on International Women’s Day (March 8 2024).
This incredible day gave students the opportunity to tour and explore postsecondary and career options in the latest technologies. Areas of focus included robotics, manufacturing, and 3D printing. Students participated in stimulating hands-on STEAM experiential learning activities, allowing them to test out the Draw-bot, BuzzMe and Puzzle Bot. Students were also given an introduction to Mechatronics by the Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology.
The Luncheon & Panel Discussion featured a diverse and extraordinary panel of fearless women who shared their authentic stories. These women demonstrated how there is strength in our differences which brings innovation, productivity, and pride to a more elastic workforce. Takeaways from the panel discussion included how “diversity makes a team stronger” and “how diversity brings more innovation and solution”. Inspirational advice from the remarkable panelists included: be curious, take risks, do your research, learn through failure and keep moving forward.
Our students were inspired with new perspectives to help them engineer their dream career. A special thank you to the Administration and Guidance Team at Monsignor Percy Johnson for their support and collaboration in making the day possible!
