Specialist High Skills Major Programs
The Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) Programs in Information and Communications Technology, Non-Profit, Education and Child Care, and Sports at Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary School offer students the opportunity to explore a specific area or career of interest and acquire knowledge, skills, and experience that will assist them in their post-secondary pathway: apprenticeship, training, college, university and the workplace.
Each SHSM Program includes:
Bundle of Credits
Consisting of eight to ten Grade 11 and Grade 12 credits, including Cooperative Education and the completion of Contextualized Learning Activities in specified courses.
Certification and Training
Sector-recognized certifications and training courses/programs of which CPR Level C, First Aid and WHMIS are mandatory certifications.
Experiential Learning and Career Exploration Activities
Experiential learning and career exploration activities within the sector, such as guest speakers, career fair/panel, etc.
Reach Ahead Experiences
Learning experiences connected with the student’s post-secondary plans, such as Skills Canada competition, university/college lectures, dual-credit experience, etc.
Essential Skills and Work Habits
Workplace skills recorded in the Ontario Skills Passport.
Upon graduation, students who complete a SHSM program will receive:
An OSSD with an embossed red seal.
An SHSM Record Card documenting achievement placed in the student’s OSR.
