On February 10, 2025 (Monday), staff and students at Brebeuf College School had the honour of welcoming Duane Gibson for a motivational presentation.
Duane Gibson is a Canadian hip-hop artist, author, public speaker, and two-time Guinness World Record-setting rapper who has inspired hundreds of thousands of youth since 2001. Gibson has performed at over 3,500 schools worldwide, reaching audiences in countries like Japan, England, France, and South Africa. Gibson’s passion for storytelling and education continues to make a lasting impact, highlighting the rich history and ongoing contributions of Black Canadians while connecting their struggles and triumphs to broader themes of empowerment.
Throughout the presentation, students learned about influential Black figures and their legacies. This encouraged a reflection on the importance of equality, justice and perseverance. Students also enjoyed the opportunity to join Duane on stage and participate in the presentation, making the experience both engaging and interactive.
A special thank you to Brebeuf’s Black Students Alliance (BSA) team for their dedication and commitment in organizing Black History Month initiatives!
