Students from St. Oscar Romero Catholic Secondary School had a unique opportunity to meet Prime Minister Mark Carney during his visit to the Carpenters Local 27 training center. The visit was part of the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), a TCDSB initiative that gives students the chance to explore careers in the skilled trades through Cooperative Education.
OYAP provides students with hands-on training, allowing them to register as apprentices and work toward certification as journey persons while earning their high school diplomas. Carney’s visit emphasized the vital role of skilled trades in Canada’s workforce and inspired students to consider careers in apprenticeship programs.
