November is a time dedicated to prayer and remembrance of the faithful departed. Embracing this tradition, St. Louis Catholic School pays tribute through a special ofrenda, inspired by the rich heritage of Día de los Muertos, a significant celebration in Latin American culture.
An ofrenda (Spanish for “offering”) is an altar adorned with personal mementos meant to honor and remember loved ones who have passed away. Traditionally set up at home, this altar includes items such as photographs, food, flowers, and candles, each symbolizing the love and respect held for the deceased.
Thanks to the volunteer efforts of Ms. Ciprietti, Ms. Serrano-Mireles, and Ms. Zuniga, St. Louis Catholic School has created an ofrenda that will be on display for the entire month of November. Families in the school community are encouraged to participate by contributing photos of their departed loved ones and writing their names in the school’s Book of Intentions.
Students can take moments to pause, pray, and reflect on the memories of those who have passed, fostering an environment of peace and reverence.
May God bless all dearly departed family and friends as we honor their memory.
