On November 20, 2024 (Wednesday), the Grade 11 students of St. John Paul II Catholic Secondary School were treated to an unforgettable spiritual retreat filled with inspiring experiences. All 314 students gathered at St. Thomas More Church, where they began the day with a beautiful and uplifting traditional Catholic Mass.
Following the Mass, Chaplain Lori Spensieri led an enlightening session on Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences, helping students explore their unique strengths and abilities. The retreat continued with a fun student-led talent show that showcased the creativity and talent of our peers.
The students were then inspired by alumni Jill Forester, who delivered a powerful talk titled "Follow Your Dreams", encouraging everyone to chase their passions with determination. Next, radio personality and retired boxer Chuck "Spider" Jones captivated the students with his motivational talk, "Believe to Achieve", leaving them with a signed copy of his book Out of the Darkness. Mr. Jones related very well to his audience and students were inspired.
To close out the day, the students were amazed by a magical performance from the incredible family magician "Wonderphil", leaving everyone in awe.
The day was filled with faith, fun and friendship-building moments that will be remembered for a long time. It was a truly special retreat that helped our Grade 11 students grow closer as a community and deepen their connection to one another and to God.
