The Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy organized an overnight trip to the YMCA Cedar Glen Outdoor Centre on April 3 to 4, 2025, for students in the Arts and Culture, Health and Wellness, ICT, Non-Profit, Education and Childcare, and Transportation sectors.

This experiential learning opportunity supported student achievement and well-being by fostering confidence, collaboration, and communication through engaging workshops and outdoor activities. Students participated in archery, high ropes, nature walks, trails, a fire pit, a maze, and team-building challenges. These activities were carefully chosen to align with SHSM certification requirements, curriculum connections, and the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations, helping students grow as responsible, self-directed learners and effective communicators. The experience reinforced key learning outcomes while promoting mental health, physical activity, and real-world skill development.

With appreciation to our SHSM Teacher Leads, Guidance Department, Cedar Glen staff, participating SHSM students, and the Central SHSM team for their collaborative support of this important student engagement opportunity.
