Students from St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy's Grade 9 English Destreamed classes joined students from across the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) to participate in a Virtual Author Talk with Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely, authors of the book American Boys. The authors told their stories, and shared ideas about anti-Black racism.
Students at SJOA are reading Reynolds' book Long Way Down as part of the class' novel study unit. This event really allowed students to connect with their text in a multi-dimensional way.
St. Joan of Arc is appreciative of the efforts of the TCDSB's Indigenous Education, Equity, and Community Relations Department to bring us this initiative.
