Land is Sacred and Water is Life: Visual Arts students at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy experienced a transformative day of learning at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg, Ont. Students visited the gallery for a tour, exploring works created by contemporary Canadian Indigenous artists such as Norval Morrisseau, Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun, and Daphne Odjig. This sparked deeper conversations about Indigenous cultural identity and history.

Students were also engaged in hands-on learning through an art activity centered around caring for the land and water, which are essential to sustaining life.

The experience not only deepened students' understanding of Indigenous art and culture but inspired them to reflect on their own connections to the land and the importance of environmental stewardship.
