On March 21, 2025 (Friday), the gym at St. Basil-The-Great College School was packed to capacity for a high-energy, sold-out P4 Basketball buyout game that brought students, staff, and alumni together for a spirited showdown. The annual tradition saw the Senior Boys Basketball team take on their teachers in a competitive but fun-filled match that had the crowd on its feet from start to finish.
More than just a game, the event served a meaningful purpose, where all proceeds went towards supporting SBC’s Black Student Association (BSA) and the student council, reinforcing the school’s commitment to student leadership, inclusion, and community building.
The staff team featured an all-star lineup of members who brought their A-game to the court. Ms. Purville, Mr. Perez, Ms. Lamanna, Mr. Rick, Mr. D'Souza, Mr. Quattrociocchi, Mr. Paternostro and Vice Principal Mr. A. D. Sooroojpal all joined in to showcase their talents. Their energy, sportsmanship, and sense of fun made them crowd favorites and added to the electric atmosphere in the gym.
Adding to the excitement, numerous SBC alumni returned to take part in the festivities, with some cheering from the stands, others suiting up for the game, and a few even stepping in as referees. The strong alumni presence highlighted the lasting impact of SBC’s school spirit and community ties.
Last year’s event featured a friendly matchup between the Senior Boys and members of the Toronto Police Association and 31 Division, displaying SBC’s tradition of using sport to foster connection and collaboration with the goal of building a strong sense of community. Friday’s game continued that legacy, blending athleticism, school pride, and social impact, proving once again that when the SBC community comes together, it’s always a slam dunk.
