On Wednesday, November 6, our Grade 12 International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program students participated in the launch of this year's Global Ideas Institute.
The Global Ideas Institute is a GTA-wide challenge organized and hosted by the University of Toronto's Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, where students are tasked with researching and creating innovative solutions to global issues related to economics, politics, and technology.
This year's topic, entitled Bridging the Digital Divide, requires students to investigate the growing economic disparity alongside the reality that much of the impoverished world remains disconnected from technology and the internet. Throughout the school year, our students will work directly with graduate students to develop their research, culminating in a pitch and Q&A session before a panel of academic and industry experts.
Our students—Lucas V., Mikayla B., Maya R., Rebekah-Joyce A., and Esther A.—will represent the SBC community. This initiative not only enables students to collaborate with graduate students but also provides our IB students with the opportunity to embody the Catholic Graduate Expectations and the IB Learner Profile. By embracing a global mindset and working toward shared goals, students gain a truly unique and enriching experience. This is an excellent opportunity for our Grade 12 Theory of Knowledge IB students to further develop as critical thinkers and engage actively with global issues.
