On Thursday, September 12, 2024, staff and students from Holy Child Catholic School attended the 2nd Annual Battleground Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Basketball Charity Event at the Regent Park Community Centre. The event was organized by actor and producer Emmanuel Kabongo. This entertaining, interactive, and meaningful community gathering promoted the importance of charity by raising awareness for cancer research and support programs at Princess Margaret Hospital. It also highlighted collaboration and community involvement.
The day began with a prayer, a Land Acknowledgement, basketball challenges, a mental health presentation, a dance performance, and concluded with a meet and greet. The staff and students had the honour of meeting 2024 Olympic 4x100m gold medalists Andre De Grasse, Brendon Rodney, and Jerome Blake, as well as Mayor Olivia Chow, Deputy Mayor Ausma Malik, the Honourable Marci Ien, Devo Brown, and other prominent personalities and celebrities.
