On May 24, 2024 (Friday), Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School hosted our annual Relay for Life event, raising an impressive $20,000 for cancer research. Running in conjunction with the school's Annual Carnival Day, this event featured games, activities and performances by students, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere.
Relay for Life is a team-based event where participants form groups and take turns walking or running around a track or path for several hours, symbolizing the ongoing fight against cancer. Teams were encouraged to fundraise leading up to the event, with all proceeds supporting the Canadian Cancer Society.
The success of this year’s Relay for Life was largely due to the leadership of student organizers Amelia M., Olivia DeC., Diana N., Julia B. and their Relay Committee. Their efforts in planning and motivating participants were instrumental in achieving the fundraising goal. Helen Mulligan, a teacher at Father John Redmond and a key figure in the event’s execution, was recognized by trustee Teresa Lubinski for her outstanding dedication to Relay for Life over the past two years. A huge congratulations goes out to Mrs. Mulligan and all her hard work.
Community support was vital, with parents, staff, alumni, and local businesses contributing through donations and volunteering. This collective effort highlighted the unity and generosity of the Father John Redmond community.
This relay was a tremendous success, raising significant funds for cancer research and fostering a sense of community and purpose. The $20,000 raised will help the Canadian Cancer Society continue its essential work, offering hope and support to those affected by cancer.
