Attendance Procedures

There is a clear correlation between attendance and student success. Students who attend class regularly and consistently tend to perform better academically. Our school hours are from 8:30 AM to 2:36 PM. For detailed information regarding attendance procedures, please refer to the My School Day app.

Attendance is mandatory for each class during the school year. If a student is unable to attend a class during the day, a parent/guardian must report the absence through the SafeArrival system or by providing a note to the school’s attendance office.

SafeArrival

The SafeArrival system of reporting absences has been implemented at our school and will reduce the time it takes to verify student attendance, making it easy for you to report your child’s absence and easy for staff to respond to unreported student absences. The SafeArrival feature is available within the School Messenger app.

With SafeArrival, you are asked to report your child’s absence in advance using one of three convenient methods:

  1. Using your mobile device: Download and install the SchoolMessenger App from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. The first time you use the app, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance, and then Report an Absence.

  2. Using the School Messenger website: The first time you use the website, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance, and then Report an Absence

  3. Using the automated phone system: Call the toll-free number 1-833-251-3286 to report an absence using the automated phone system.

These options are available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Further absences can be reported at any time, up to a maximum of 10 consecutive days. It is important to note that, when setting up your account, you must register using the email address and phone number associated with your child’s student record.

In addition, the school will use SchoolMessenger’s automated notification system to contact any parent whose child is absent, if the absence was not reported in advance. The automated notification system will attempt to contact parents/guardians at multiple contact points until a reason is submitted for the absence. If our system is unable to reach the designated contacts, office staff will follow up. If you report your child’s absence in advance using the SafeArrival toll-free number, website or SchoolMessenger app, you will NOT receive these notifications.

Parents/Guardians are encouraged to set-up a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to avoid improper reporting of absences.

Late Arrivals and Signing In/Out Procedures

  • Students must be in class for Period 1 by no later than 8:25 AM.

  • Students arriving late for school (8:45 AM or later) must go to their lockers to put away coats, etc. and be in full uniform BEFORE reporting to the attendance office to obtain an admit to class slip. Students arriving late prior to 8:45 AM must report directly to their Period 1 class and will be marked late by their Period 1 teacher.

  • Students arriving or leaving during the day are required to sign-in/out at the attendance office even if parents have reported the sign-in/out.

Truancy

  • 1st Truancy: Student will be warned by subject teacher and evaluated accordingly. Student may also be directed to the main office to speak to an Administrator.

  • 2nd Truancy: Conference/meeting with the Vice Principal, parent/guardian and the student.

  • Subsequent Truancies: Consequences, including possible suspension to be determined by Administration.

School Messenger PIN Instructions

Parents/guardians may assign their own 4-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) to an individual student through their SchoolMessenger app. This provides an additional layer of security and prevents students from reporting their own absences. Multiple parents/guardians connected to the same students can share and use the same PIN, or they can set their own individual PINs for the same students.

For instructions on how to set up a PIN for a student on the mobile app or the website, please visit the SchoolMessenger page.
