Programs consist of a combination of teacher-directed and student-directed instruction, as well as large and small groups and individualized instruction when necessary.

Enrichment

Enrichment activities are part of classroom programming.

Literacy

Early childhood development, especially in the area of literacy, has been a focus. Reading buddies and Literacy Support have provided opportunities for individualized attention for our primary students and exposed them to a variety of reading materials.

Technological literacy

Every classroom has two or more computers. The school also enjoys a computer lab in our school library. This lab provides a class an opportunity to work together with the support of both the teacher and the librarian. The school now shares three Smart Boards, an exciting interactive classroom tool.

Science and technology

Hands-on experience with building materials and other mechanical devises provide our students with the opportunity to apply mathematical and scientific principles to their day-to-day activities.

Safe arrival

Our safe arrival program is a high priority for St. Nicholas Catholic School. To ensure student safety, parents/guardians will be contacted if a student is absent and the school has not been notified prior to morning and afternoon sessions. We encourage parents to report their child(ren)'s absence before 9:00 AM. Written notes are required for "early" dismissal during school hours. Students are not permitted to leave with anyone but their parents unless prior notification has been given, or neighbours, family and friends must report to the office with a signed permission form.

School History and Tradition

The official opening of St. Nicholas Catholic School was on a Sunday on March 13, 1966. Since then, St. Nicholas Catholic School has served the neighboring community. The original building was taken down in 2011 and rebuilt. The school reopened in March of 2013.

Our school is named for St. Nicholas, who was born in the early years of the fourth century. He was Bishop of Myra and is buried in their cathedral. One legend relates that St. Nicholas secretly provided a dowry of three bags of gold for three daughters of a man in Patara. The secret method of delivering the gold gave rise to the secret gifts of Santa Claus and the pawnbrokers symbol of three gold balls as one symbol for him.
