Dress Code

All Elementary schools within the jurisdiction of the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) shall adopt an Appropriate Dress Code or Uniform Dress Code.

All Secondary schools within the jurisdiction of the TCDSB shall adopt a Uniform Dress Code.

Parents are encouraged to review the local dress code at their child’s school and to direct their questions to the principal of the school.

St. Mary Catholic School Dress Code

The navy blue and white dress code is mandatory within all TCDSB elementary schools and students are required to comply.

The general guidelines consist of the following:

  • Any combination of navy blue and white.

  • Colors must be solid with no pattern.

  • Jeans, leggings, jeggings and yoga pants are not permitted.

Tops/Shirts

  • Solid white or navy blue (no patterns or lettering).

  • Long or short sleeve blouse or shirt.

  • Long or short sleeve knit shirt with a collar.

  • Sweatshirt or pullover.

  • Cotton or fleece jacket or hoodie.

  • Turtleneck sweater.

  • T-shirt.

Bottoms

  • Solid navy blue (no jeans, leggings, jeggings or yoga pants).

  • Cotton pants.

  • Straight-leg sweatpants or fleece pants.

  • Cargo or Capri pants.

  • Shorts or skorts (no shorter than 3 inches above knee).

Socks and Shoes

  • Ankle socks or knee socks in navy blue or white.

  • Tights or nylons in flesh tone, navy blue or white.

  • Running shoes or other soft-soled non-marking shoes (white, black or brown).

  • Sandals with fasteners (no flip-flops, no slip-on shoes).

Other Items

  • Dresses or skirts to the knee.

Please note that students who do not follow the dress code as outlined will be required to wear dress code clothing provided by the office over their own clothing.

Students may also lose out on school privileges (e.g., class trips), be sent home, and/or be suspended for non-compliance if dress code issues persist.
