About Us
To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. - 1 Corinthians 12:7

St. Martin de Porres Catholic School is located on the west side of Morningside Avenue at Lawrence Avenue. The school offers an extended French program that begins in Grade 5.
Our school is named for St. Martin de Porres, who is the patron saint of social justice, among other patronages. His life exemplifies for the school community our collective responsibilities for each other.
In his first letter to the Corinthians, Saint Paul writes about the many varying contributions that can made be to a community. At St. Martin de Porres, our staff strives to support students to be their very best, striving to improve their skills - academically, socially, physically and spiritually - to contribute to the common good of all in our community.
How We Meet the Diverse Needs of Our Students
School History and Tradition
St. Martin de Porres Catholic School was built in 1962. At that time, the school was surrounded by farmland, residential homes and apartments. The school population was made up of students from a vast geographic area. Students came from Highland Creek region to as far east as the Pickering border. By the late 1960s, the population of St. Martin de Porres began to change. With the expansion of Lawrence Avenue, the number of apartment buildings also grew. To accommodate a growing community, an addition to the school was built in 1968. In that same year, St. Martin de Porres began offering bussing to its students.
Our school is named after St. Martin de Porres, who was known for his work with the poor and needy. In following in the footsteps of St. Martin de Porres, the school has always conducted a fall food drive. Our annual Christmas raffle has always generated funds which have been used to support needy families within the community. We celebrated our 25th anniversary in 1987 and our golden anniversary in 2012.
