As St. Joseph’s College School celebrates their 170th anniversary, the SJCS music ensembles contributed to their school’s legacy, led by Dr. Daniel Hasznos, earning several awards at provincial, national, and international music festivals.
The SJCS Wind Ensemble began their festival season earlier in February as they performed at the Ontario Band Association Festival, earning a "Gold Award" and an "Overall Outstanding Performance Award". While in Montreal during the school’s arts trip, the SJCS Wind Ensemble earned an "Excellence Award" while participating in the Rhythms International Music Festival. Most recently, they made their MusicFest Nationals debut last week, performing a very energetic program which earned them a "Gold Award", the first in St. Joseph’s College School history.
The SJCS Choir made their Ontario Vocal Festival debut earlier in March, earning an invitation to MusicFest Nationals. In Montreal, they joined the Wind Ensemble by earning an "Excellence Award" at the Rhythms International Music Festival. In their MusicFest Nationals debut, the SJCS Choir gave a very dynamic performance which secured them a "Silver Award".
The SJCS String Ensemble participated at this year’s Ontario String Association Festival earlier in April earning a "Gold Award" with an invitation to participate in MusicFest Nationals. After a very expressive performance at the Rhythms International Music Festival in Montreal, they recieved a "Superior Award". At MusicFest Nationals, the string ensemble gave an emotionally charged performance, leaving not one dry eye in the audience. Their captivating performance earned them a "Gold Award", capping off a historic festival season for SJCS’ Music Department.
