Our School
About Us
At St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic School, we pride ourselves on the strong partnership that exists among the home, the school and the parish.
How We Meet the Diverse Needs of Our Students
St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic School offers a wide variety of programs including regular Grade 1 to 8 classes, Full-Day Early Learning Kindergarten, International Languages (Mandarin and Tagalog), Special Education Resource Support, Gifted Program Centre (for north Scarborough), and classes for students with Multiple Exceptionalities. A diverse population is serviced with an attempt to meet each student's individual spiritual, academic, social and emotional needs.
Catholic Environment
St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic School provides a learning environment where models of Gospel values and Catholic doctrines, teaching and beliefs are integral aspects of daily life. Religious Education and Family Life programs, sanctioned by the Canadian Conference of Bishops, are taught at each level and form a firm foundation for the faith development of students. Students are taught to live their faith by participating in liturgical and paraliturgical celebrations, food drives, ShareLife campaigns and Me To We initiatives, as well as living each day in a Christian manner through prayer and action.
Safe and Welcoming Environment
We pride ourselves in providing a safe AND inviting school. Students adhere to a code of conduct which assists in providing security for all, both inside the school and in the playground. Our safe arrival program, where parents call in advance to inform us of a child's absence, assists us in ensuring that all of our students are safe.
Curriculum Initiatives
The staff at St. Ignatius of Loyola develops programs from Kindergarten to Grade 8 which are consistent with the Ministry of Education and the Toronto Catholic District School Board curriculum guidelines. Every effort is made to modify programs in order to accommodate individual student needs.
Co-curricular Programs
A wide variety of programs are offered to enhance and support the work being accomplished in the classroom. Excursions at all levels are program-related and give students a wide variety of experiences and unique educational opportunities. Extracurricular activities include student council, chess, W5H, public speaking, Health Action Team, Eco Team, soccer, volleyball, basketball, flag football, cross-country and track and field.
School History and Tradition
St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic School opened in September 1973 and is named after St. Ignatius, who founded the Jesuits upon his conversion, and whose society went into the community to teach, preach, help others and spread the faith. As one of the great spiritual leaders of the church, Ignatius was canonized in 1622. With more than a quarter century-old tradition of growth, academic excellence and commitment, our school community strives to live up to the teachings and ideals of our namesake.
