Congratulations to St. Bonaventure’s Grade 7 students, Ruzanna A., Sassoun H., Nathan G., Anthony D., Gavin V., Andrej N., and Isabella C., also know as Team Shadow Wizards, for placing 6th in the Global Destination Imagination Engineering Challenge in Kansas City.

Earlier this spring, they came in 1st place in the Ontario middle school Engineering category of Destination Imagination, a prestigious STEAM competition, where the task was to build a cardboard roller coaster for a golf ball. In addition, they had to create and present a “commercial” to entice the audience to ride the roller coaster.

Their success in Ontario earned them a spot in the Global Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri, in May 2023 where they competed against teams from other Canadian provinces, Europe, Asia, and the United States. Competing in Kansas City came with several challenges, including having to fundraise in order to cover the registration fee. The students also had to enhance both their commercial and their roller coaster, based on feedback from the Ontario judges. The greatest challenge was the logistical complexities involved in towing the roller coaster to Kansas City.

Unfortunately, a rainstorm in Illinois damaged an important part of the roller coaster. Despite this setback, the team pulled together and worked very hard to repair the roller coaster in time for their presentation. They did very well, placing 6th out of approximately 40 teams in this category!

 Congratulations to Team Shadow Wizards!
