Congratulations to Ms. Bilotta’s Grade 7 class, whose city design won the "City I'd Live In" Award of the Future City design competition! Our students designed and the shared a design of the future city of "Gaudiummaris" as part of the 2023 Future City Showcase, and it was voted as the city where the students would like to live in the future.
The objective of the Future City program is to inspire youths’ interest in engineering via a hands-on project-based learning program that is integrated into the middle school curriculum. Grade 6 to 8 students create cities that exist at least 100 years in the future by applying the engineering design process and specific project management methods. Students’ work is overseen by an educator and STEM mentor to meet project deliverables that include experimenting with city design, researching and designing a solution to a city-wide issue, and building a scale model of their city using recycled materials.
Engineering Outreach within the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Ontario Tech University is proud to host the virtual Future City Experience Showcase 2023 in partnership with Engineers Canada and Engineers of Tomorrow.
