The Toronto Catholic District School board continues to foster an environment which not only promotes student engagement within learning, but where the social, emotional, and spiritual growth of students are also brought to the forefront. With this goal in mind, staff at Mother Cabrini Catholic School, set out to form its very first “Lookout” team.

This team is comprised of diverse groups of students who would foster cooperative play and bring to the forefront the board pastoral plan through interacting with each other while living out the spirit of this year's theme, "With Hearts of Kindness and Love". Throughout the year, this team has grown and is now comprised of over 40 students who dedicate their time at recess to foster cooperative play in the school yard through peer mediational activities and role modeling initiatives.

The team also assists with various activities and events throughout the school, while playing an integral role at school assemblies. As a result, Mother Cabrini Catholic School has seen a reduction in incidents of conflict throughout the school. As Nelson Mandela once stated, "a leader...is like a shepherd. He stays behind the flock, letting the most nimble go out ahead, whereupon the others follow, not realizing that all along they are being directed from behind.”

We would like to thank the “Lookouts” for being the shepherds who guide the flock each and every day at this jewel of a school in Etobicoke.
