James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic Secondary School is celebrating an outstanding achievement by one of its students, Stavro Polus, who has been awarded the 2024 Identity ‘N Impact (INI) grant. This $17,000 grant, provided by Jane and Finch With Love, recognizes Stavro’s visionary project aimed at uplifting and engaging youth from marginalized communities.
Principal Antonio Bisceglia and Executive Superintendent Shawna Campbell expressed their heartfelt congratulations to Stavro for his remarkable accomplishment. “This award is a testament to Stavro’s vision, dedication, and leadership, as well as the educators and external mentors who have supported him,” said Mr. Bisceglia.
Stavro’s initiative stood out among 118 applications, representing a total funding request of nearly $1.9 million. The rigorous evaluation process, led by a youth panel, highlighted the exceptional potential of his project to drive meaningful change and foster community well-being.
The grant, provided by Jane and Finch With Love, aligns with the Toronto Youth Equity Strategy’s core principles of empowering youth leadership, enhancing skills development, fostering community safety, and creating inclusive spaces. Stavro’s focus on uplifting and engaging youth mirrors these values and demonstrates his commitment to a brighter, more equitable future.
“This is not only a win for Stavro but for our entire school community,” added Superintendent Campbell. “We are proud to support him as he takes steps to bring his vision to life.”
The school anticipates that Stavro’s project will have a lasting positive impact on the community, with tangible results expected in 2025 and beyond.
Congratulations to Stavro Polus on this extraordinary achievement!
