In continued partnership with Humber Polytechnic, Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) Central Guidance provided 75 students from Father Henry Carr Secondary School with the opportunity to celebrate "Championing Women in STEM" at the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation for International Women’s Day on March 7, 2024.
Students had the honour of participating in a remarkable event dedicated to empowering future female leaders in STEM. The students experienced innovation firsthand on tour through the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation (BCTI), where robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced manufacturing came to life.
The luncheon featured a diverse panel of female engineers who shared their authentic stories and insights to Accelerate Action. An interactive element using Mentimeter questions engaged students during the luncheon. Many students took the opportunity to ask insightful questions of the panelists, which generated meaningful discussions.
Some valuable advice from the female panelists to the students included: "Pursuing STEM related fields provides a skill set that applies to any industry. It is a platform for the future. Just do it, even if you are scared."
The Father Henry Carr students demonstrated an incredible level of curiosity and enthusiasm as they discovered new opportunities for their future careers. They were inspired by new perspectives and possibilities that transcended beyond the traditional classroom.
Thank you to both the administration and guidance teams at FHC for their collaboration in making the day possible! A special note of thanks to Ms. Mazzucco-Elwick, Ms. Gallo and Ms. Ngaruiya for supporting the day.
