Students at Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School came together on January 20, 2025 (Monday) to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, honouring the enduring legacy of the civil rights leader and his contributions to the fight for racial equality and justice. To mark the occasion, students were permitted to wear FHC Black Appreciation t-shirts distributed last year, proudly showcasing their support for unity and equity. The day was filled with announcements about Dr. King's message of nonviolence and perseverance, with teachers integrating his teachings into classroom activities and reflections.
This celebration also serves as an exciting lead-up to African Canadian History Month, which the TCDSB will observe next month. The FHC Black Student Association (BSA) has been working diligently to plan a series of events that promise to celebrate the achievements and contributions of African Canadians. These activities aim to deepen students' understanding of history while creating opportunities for dialogue and community building within the school.
The school community is looking forward to engaging in these upcoming events, which align with its commitment to equity and inclusion. The BSA's initiatives are expected to inspire students to explore their heritage, reflect on shared histories, and contribute to a more just society. By honouring Dr. King's legacy and celebrating African Canadian History Month, Father Henry Carr continues to foster a learning environment that values diversity and empowerment.
