On Friday, December 20, Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School (FHC) hosted the inaugural Dillon Brooks Cup, a special event celebrating the contributions of NBA star Dillon Brooks to the school’s Prep Basketball program. A packed gymnasium cheered as FHC’s Junior and Senior Prep teams faced off against James Cardinal McGuigan (JCM) in two thrilling games.
Dillon Brooks, a proud alumnus of FHC, attended the event, which garnered coverage on TSN, Sportsnet, and Houston Rockets Sportsnet. To honor his generosity—including financial support and donations of Nike tracksuits, shoes, bags, uniforms, and training gear—FHC unveiled a framed jersey and a 10 x 10 mural of Brooks in the school gymnasium.
Adding to the excitement, Brooks provided 20 tickets to the Houston Rockets vs. Toronto Raptors game, along with a meet-and-greet for team members. His stellar performance in that game, scoring 27 points and leading the Rockets to a 114-110 victory, was a fitting capstone to the celebration.
The Dillon Brooks Cup featured two games:
Junior Game: FHC defeated JCM 91-52, with Trevor I. of FHC earning the Lou DiNicolantonio GAME MVP Award for his 18-point performance.
Senior Game: JCM edged out FHC 89-85, with Andre T. of JCM scoring 28 points to win the John Petrushchak GAME MVP Award.
Overall, FHC claimed victory in the combined score, 176-141.
Coach Paul Melnik and Principal Francesco Malfitano expressed their gratitude to fans, parents, cheerleaders, volunteers, teachers, administration staff from both schools, and TCDSB Senior Staff for making the event a success. Special thanks were extended to Dillon Brooks and his family for their invaluable support and for returning to celebrate this milestone with the FHC community.
