The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) Central Guidance team, in partnership with Humber Polytechnic, provided Grade 10 Drama students from Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School with the opportunity to visit the Humber campus and enjoy an Experience Day on October 24, 2024. Students participated in Spoken Word and Improvisation workshops at the Humber Polytechnic Lakeshore Campus. These workshops gave students the opportunity to get out of their comfort zones and provided them with a platform to share their art with others. Professors instructed various techniques in both Spoken Word and Improvisation and allowed students to put theories learned into practice. Students created beautiful works of poetry, told stories, and learned the craft of improvisation in a safe and welcoming environment.

Students also learned about Humber’s New Bachelor of Creative and Professional Writing Degree Program from published author, Professor David James Brock and were provided the opportunity to enter the Flash Fiction Contest for Ontario high school students. Students were inspired with new perspectives after participating in stimulating learning experiences that went beyond the traditional classroom. It also helped students explore and consider career options.

A special thank you to the Administration and Guidance Department at Father Henry Carr for their support, and another special thank you to Ms. Guiliani for her leadership and collaboration in making the day possible!
