Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School is fortunate and pleased to announce that NBA and Canadian Basketball star Dillon Brooks is giving back to the community as the major sponsor of FHC Senior Boys Prep Program. His donation in kind is both a financial donation and a complete Nike sponsorship for all members of the program. All players will be outfitted in complete Nike attire, including travel attire, and the financial donation will assist the team in travelling to several US tournaments throughout the year.
As an aspiring basketball player, Dillon Brooks was intense, energetic and loved to compete. Having similar styles, he was attracted to Father Henry Carr Basketball led by Coach Melnik.
Dillon attended FHC from 2010 to 2013 and led the Crusaders to three undefeated dominant seasons during his tenure. In 2011 and 2012, he led Father Henry Carr to back-to-back Toronto Catholic Junior Championships. In 2013, he followed that up with FHC’s 3rd of 7 consecutive Toronto Catholic Senior Championships and our 2nd Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Silver Medal.
Along this journey, Dillon developed, both physically and intellectually. Coach Melnik and FHC proudly helped him move him on to the United States, where he accepted a 4-year fully paid scholarship at Oregon University.
As a freshman at Oregeon, he was named to the Pacific-12 Conference All-Freshman team. As a sophomore, Dillon led the Oregon Ducks to the Pacific-12 Conference Regular Season Championship, a top ten national ranking, and to the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Tournament Final Eight. He was named first-team All-Pacific 12, third-team All-American, and the District 9 player of the yr. As a junior, he was a preseason All-American. He led the Ducks to the NCAA tournament Final Four.
In 2017, he was selected by the Houston Rockets in the National Basketball Association (NBA) Draft, but was immediately traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. In the Grizzlies regular season opener, Dillon scored 19 points, which is the most points scored by a Canadian-born player in their NBA debut! Last summer, he was traded back to the Houston Rockets.
Dillon has played for Canada’s National Teams at all age groups. Recently, at the 2023 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Cup, Canada won the Bronze Medal, its first global tournament medal in basketball since 1936, and a berth in the Olympic Games. In the historic bronze medal victory over the United States, Dillon scored a team-best 39 points, setting a single-game scoring record for a Canadian player at the World Cup. He was named Best Defensive Player of the Tournament! This past summer, at the 2024 Olympic Games in France, Dillon was a starter and the leader of the defense. The team did well, but fell short in the quarter finals to the host team from France.
We want to thank Dillon for allowing us to help wonderful young students like himself achieve their dreams!
