Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School was fortunate to have The Creative Outlet Workshop at our school which gave our arts students in Grades 9 to 12 the opportunity to create abstract paintings using paint pouring to encourage their self-expression and inclusivity. This workshop served as an introduction to a deeper engagement with their creative consciousness.

Art and creative expression play a vital role in the cultural identity and empowerment of the Black community. Black artists have long used their talents to tell their stories, celebrate their heritage, and advocate for social change. Art is a powerful cultural and creative preservation tool, allowing the Black community to reclaim narratives, challenge stereotypes, and assert their place within the broader cultural landscape. Creative self-discovery promotes self-awareness and confidence and nurtures a sense of belonging and unity within the community. The arts empower Black individuals to embrace their uniqueness while cultivating their talents.

Thank you to Jojo D for coming to Carr and showing our students the craft of paint pouring!
