Throughout the year, the FHC Safe School Action Team has actively participated in the MLSE Huddle Up Program, aligning with its mission to combat bullying, discrimination, and racism while promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and mental health awareness. Led by Jason Colero, the program specialist, and supported by MLSE, the initiative empowers students to take proactive measures in their school community.
The culmination of their efforts was celebrated at the Huddle Up year-end event on May 1st, hosted at MLSE's Launchpad. The event coincided with the MLSE Youth Empowerment Summit, a gathering of schools from across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) aimed at promoting inclusion and equity.
During the summit, students had the opportunity to hear motivational messages from various athletes and engage in activities like lacrosse, wheelchair basketball, and flag football. These experiences not only fostered teamwork but also reinforced the values of respect and cooperation championed by the Huddle Up Program.
The FHC Safe School Action Team's participation in the event exemplifies their commitment to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment within their school and community.
