On February 23, 2024 (last Friday) the Drama Team of Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School organized and performed an original play - "Somebody See Me" - for the students of All Saints Catholic Elementary School. This matinee performance was greatly enjoyed by the students and staff, who also had a good time participating in the performance and workshop activities that followed. The goal of this initiative was to encourage more elementary students to participate in the performing arts.
The play "Somebody See Me" was written by and starred Bethany R., and was directed by Katie B.. The play follows the lives of four Grade 12 students who are struggling internally while in detention. They all have different issues, but one thing remains the same; they all choose to hide their internal struggles. Through their experiences with each other, they learn to understand and see one another through their facades.
The FHC Drama Team followed their performance with a brief Question & Answers session with the actors, and then led the All Saints students in an acting workshop which focused on building confidence, teamwork and the basics of public speaking.
According to All Saints teacher Mr. Roloson:
"That was an incredible morning. The presentation is incredible (...) Your students were all so open, and willing to put themselves out there. Many of our students came out of their shells even more! Hoping we can do a lot together in the future. I know for sure that much work went into your production and tell the whole cast to break a leg from us!"
We wanted to thank Tonya Giuliani for organizing this event for All Saints students, and for her leadership with the Drama Team. As well, thank you to Ms. Trower for her continued support with this event.
