On Saturday, April 5, 2025, show choirs from across Canada gathered in Toronto for the Show Choir Canada National Championships. During this exciting event, schools and private academies competed for the chance to be named first in their division and, ultimately, Grand Champion.
Show Choir Canada continues to redevelop its format following the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, the competition featured a multi-day format with 20 to 30 choirs flying in from all over North America.
At All Saints Catholic School, Mr. Stephen Roloson launched a show choir program called FLAIR to encourage intermediate student participation in the Arts. Since its inception, FLAIR has performed several sold-out concerts and has competed at Show Choir Canada multiple times. The group is audition-based, and includes a leadership program where students demonstrating specific leadership qualities are named Captains.
This year, FLAIR was the only group in their Elementary School division. At their request, they were moved to the Middle School category—a highly competitive division that included two performing arts private theater programs from Ontario and New York. FLAIR presented The Hunger Games through a dynamic blend of dance, song, and group performance. They placed 1st in Canada and 2nd in North America in their division.
The transformative nature of a show choir program has a profound impact on intermediate students' love for the Arts. It offers a space for students to discover their talents, grow in confidence, and connect with peers who share their passions. Show choir uniquely combines dance, singing, and musical theatre into a single creative experience. Many students who have been part of FLAIR are now pursuing performing arts programs within the board to continue developing their skills and passion.
