STATEMENT: TCDSB Passes 2025–2026 Budget, Reduces Deficit by Over 25%

"This year's budget reflects our commitment to keeping students at the front and centre of everything we do, while responding thoughtfully to the fiscal challenges before us.

Despite these pressures, we continue to ensure every possible dollar is invested where it will have the greatest impact, with 97.5% of our budget directly supporting students.

Our Board recognizes the profound responsibility entrusted to us and the need to carefully balance improving our financial outlook while minimizing impacts on students and the classroom.

Throughout this year's budget process, the Board worked diligently to reduce the deficit by more than 25%. However, our work is far from over. We remain focused on identifying savings and efficiencies on an ongoing basis to strengthen our long-term financial outlook.

As part of this work, the Board has requested the use of $30 million in Proceeds of Disposition, and is seeking approval of its Multi-Year Financial Recovery Plan, to further reduce the deficit and set us on a path to balance.

As Canada's largest Catholic school board, we are proud to lead with integrity and transparency. We remain committed to partnering with the province to advance our shared goals of preparing students for future success and equipping educators with the resources they need to support student achievement."
